A Moving Tribute: The Founder of Hipotels Receives Mallorca’s Highest Honour
On 12 September 2025, during the Diada de Mallorca, the Consell de Mallorca awarded its highest honour to a true pillar of the island’s development: Don Juan Llull, founder of Hipotels Hotels & Resorts, was named Fill Predilecte – Favourite Son – in recognition of his exemplary work in boosting the tourism sector in eastern Mallorca.
At 90 years of age, Don Juan Llull embodies a tourism model built on personal effort, family legacy and genuine service. His journey is also Mallorca’s journey – an island that has grown by staying true to its essence and caring for its people and visitors.
A visionary with deep local roots
Over five decades ago, Don Juan founded Hipotels with a clear goal: to grow sustainably, honouring Mallorca’s values. Today, the group is one of the island’s leading hotel chains, with operations in Cádiz, Lanzarote and Cancún, yet always true to its Mallorcan spirit.
Consell President Llorenç Galmés praised Don Juan’s achievements, calling them “the essence of a tourism model that, through personal and family dedication, has positioned Mallorca as a world-class destination”.
A symbolic moment for the island
Don Juan’s recognition stood out among the 24 awardees honoured for their contribution to Mallorca. The Fill Predilecte distinction, granted by consensus of all political groups, celebrates those who have shaped the island with integrity, dedication and love.
A legacy that lights the way forward
As tourism embraces sustainability and authenticity, the story of Don Juan Llull and Hipotels reminds us that success can be built on values, relationships and vision.
