Behind every memorable stay, there are people who work with commitment, passion and a deep understanding of detail. María del Mar Gardón’s story reflects how talent can grow within an organization when there is a desire to learn and a supportive environment.
From her beginnings in 2004 to her current role at the Andalusia offices within the Commercial Department, her journey shows that every position adds value, every learning experience counts, and every step prepares the next.

The beginnings: learning from the ground up
María del Mar joined Hipotels Barrosa Palace in 2004 as a waitress assistant, just after finishing her Tourism degree. That stage was much more than a first job; it was, as she recalls, “very enriching.” Not only because of the technical learning, but also because it was where she learned the value of teamwork and the importance of caring for every detail in customer service.

In 2006, she moved to the Reception Department at Hipotels Playa Barrosa as an assistant and, in 2013, was promoted to receptionist at Hipotels Barrosa Palace, where she remained for more than a decade. Direct contact with guests allowed her to understand firsthand what those who choose Cádiz for their holidays are looking for: warmth, professionalism and an impeccable experience.
Her desire to understand the “why” behind things and continuously improve has been key to her development. Today, after more than 20 years at Hipotels, her journey reflects steady growth and long-term commitment.

A new stage in the Commercial Department
Currently, María del Mar works at the Andalusia offices within the Commercial Department, in the areas of Sales and Revenue Management.
Her daily work focuses on a clear goal: optimizing hotel sales at the right time, adapting strategies according to demand and market context.
“My job focuses on helping the hotel sell better, at the right time and at the best possible price,” she explains.
It is a dynamic department, where there is always something to review, check or adjust. This constant activity makes it a demanding yet stimulating environment, full of continuous learning.

Understanding the guest from within
The transition from Reception to the Commercial Department has been very positive. The support of her colleagues has played a fundamental role in this process.
Coming from Reception has allowed her to understand guests’ real needs firsthand and to gain a comprehensive view of how the hotel operates.
This global perspective enables her to contribute different ideas and enrich the commercial strategy with a more complete vision.
“It is being a very motivating and enriching process, and I feel very comfortable and delighted with what I do,” she shares. That enthusiasm for continuous learning remains a constant in her career.

When hospitality creates lasting bonds
Among her most cherished memories is the relationship she built with German guests during her early years. What began as a professional interaction became a personal connection.
When she had the opportunity to study in Germany for a few months, those guests offered her accommodation in their home and welcomed her as part of their family. To this day, they remain in contact, visit each other and maintain a close relationship.
This story reflects something essential in hospitality: it does not end with a stay; it can become a genuine human connection.

María del Mar Gardón’s career reflects a professional who has experienced the hotel from different perspectives: direct guest service and now the strategy that makes it possible. Her evolution brings a complete vision, where every commercial decision considers the final guest experience.
Stories like hers are part of Hipotels’ essence: people who grow, learn and contribute to making every stay special.
